The Anchoress comes back from a weekend retreat with batteries charged and a tank full of gas. There is nothing like a well-done, in-your-face rant to get your week off to a good start. Her message to Maureen Dowd is like a splash of iced water. She makes me feel like Freddy discovering Liza Doolittle.
Now, here is some advice: BUCK IT UP. Being able to write for a living is so much better than actually having to go out and get a real job - it is a gift and a privilege. I suggest you take a big breath, gird up whatever is left of your loin and take the ups and downs that come with your incredibly privileged, powerful position like a professional, or - if you cannot do that - LEAVE the job to someone who has the stomach and the fortitude for it.
Just getting warmed up at that point.
Take the time to read the rest.

I waited 50 years for the privilege of writing for a living. And it is an incredibly privilege. And even more...worth it to wait 50 years: I now have something to say!
